Are 5a chicken processing facilities eligible for this funding?

5a chicken processing facilities are only eligible for consideration if they are seeking to use these funds to acquire USDA inspection status. These facilities are expected to apply with a comprehensive plan on acquiring USDA cert.

There is no set date for when funds will be awarded but expect an announcement to be later in the summer at the earliest.

What is meant by specific meat processing activities that would meet the requirement of being "involved in the processing of meat products"?

​

This grant has the goal of increasing the amount of NY raised animals that is brought into NY markets. You do not have to be a slaughter facility to qualify for funding. All applications that can display an increase in the aforementioned goal will be considered. Funding will be competitive, so we advise applicants to review the RFP, and Fact sheet.

Are there any restrictions or conflicts with applying for multiple grants simultaneously, including the MPEG grant? 

​

As per HVADC’s RFP, USDA’s ‘Meat Processing Expansion Grant’ has the purpose of assisting current and future USDA facilities in increasing the production of New York sourced meat. While you can apply for other grants, please be aware that other state funds cannot be used as match.

While we cannot advise on which grants you should apply for, we do ask you to apply disclose if you are applying for other grants related to this project.  Due to the competitiveness of grants, it is not a guarantee that you will have the funds awarded to your project but in the case that you are awarded both grants we do ask you to disclose if you received another award.

Is the grant limited to slaughter type of operations?

​

Not necessarily, however your processing facility must utilize NYS grown Beef, Pork, Chicken and Seafood in your final product.
