The HVADC Cultivator
From Orchard to Glass - Celebrate Hudson Valley Cider Week
June 9 - 18, 2017
The Hudson Valley is home to several organizations, like HVADC, whose goal it is to develop and foster the local agricultural industry. Among these is Glynwood, and HVADC is pleased to help promote their celebration of the fermentation of one of the Hudson Valley’s most abundant crops – apples!
Hudson Valley Cider Week will feature some of the best cider makers in the region, including Pennings Farm Cidery, an HVADC Incubator Without Walls client.
HVADC worked with 3nd generation farm family the Pennings to expand their agriculture enterprise to include a cidery and taproom. Developing the cidery was a way for the Pennings to capitalize on the current popularity of hard cider and to help ensure the farm’s financial viability in the process. HVADC’s IWW program is designed to bring traditional economic development services to the agribusiness industry. Through the IWW, the Pennings were able to work with a business advisor whose services were subsidized by HVADC. Working with the business advisor allowed the Pennings to focus on what they do best, farming and cider production, while benefiting from the business expertise of an experienced consultant. HVADC subsidizes 75% of the costs of this support.
Cider Week will feature a series of events up and down the Hudson Valley with a focus on new and limited edition ciders from 100% NYS apples that are only available on the farms where they are produced. Hudson Valley Bounty members Aaron Burr Cidery, Bad Seed Cider Co., Little Apple Farm and Cidery, Orchard Hill Cider Mill, and Westwind Orchard are among the select cideries being featured during the week.
Check out the Hudson Valley Cider Week website for more information on other participating cider makers and find out where you can taste their delicious brew!
