Janet Crawshaw, Publisher, The Valley Table

Ms. Crawshaw is co-owner of Valley Table, Inc., founded in 1998 with the mission of supporting local agriculture and strengthening the links among producers, marketers, restaurateurs and consumers. The company publishes a quarterly consumer magazine, The Valley Table: The Magazine of Hudson Valley Farms, Food and Cuisine, with a companion website (valleytable.com) exclusively devoted to sustainable agriculture and issues related to the regional food supply. With a circulation of 30,000 and distribution throughout the region from New York City to Columbia County, the magazine focuses on the farmer-market-consumer link and promotes the Hudson Valley as a culinary destination. To help fulfill its mission, the company has created Hudson Valley Restaurant Week, a celebration of Hudson Valley cuisine (premiering fall 2006); sponsors annual dinner meetings for farmers, chefs and markets; and has established a college scholarship award for graduates of the Newburgh Free Academy high school’s culinary arts program.

Ms. Crawshaw is former Executive Director of the Catskill Center for Conservation and Development (Arkville, NY), a leading not-for-profit organization dedicated to protecting the natural, cultural, and historic resources and strengthening the economic values of the Catskill region of New York. She also served as Program Coordinator for the Development Center for Business (Ulster County Community College).

Ms. Crenshaw is on the board of  Friends of the Hudson Valley and is co-founder and advisory board member of Hudson Valley Slow Food. She is a graduate of the University of Vermont (phi beta kappa) and completed graduate studies at the University of Ohio.
